In summer I like to make a good fruit salad. It's very easy to make, it's super fresh and it forces me to eat more fruit. In winter, the choice of fruit is more limited, which inspires me less, and the snow outside also plays a role. Here's an example of a fruit salad that's perfect for cooling off in a heatwave, but don't hesitate to improvise a little. Many fruits lend themselves to this, so use this recipe as inspiration.
Ingredients for my fruit salad
My fruit salads often revolve around an exotic fruit, here mango and kiwi, a red fruit, here strawberries and blueberries, and fruits with more lamb's lettuce, here peaches, apples and grapes.
This usually makes a good mix of texture and flavor. I add the oranges mainly to get more juice into my salad. Finally, the lemon juice adds a little acidity, and the maple syrup, which can be replaced by another sugar, brings out the taste of fruit that may not yet be ripe enough.
- 1 mango
- 200 g strawberries
- 200 gr blackberries
- 200 gr grapes
- 1 Apple
- 200gr blueberries
- 2 kiwis
- 2 peaches and/or nectarines
- 1 large orange
- juice of half a lemon
- 2 tablespoons maple syrup (optional)
Variant ideas
As you can see, my recipe is very simple and contains only fruit and a little maple syrup/sugar.
If you like fruit salads with more juice, or if you use fruits that produce little or no juice, you can add a little orange juice or fruit juice mix.
Are your fruits not very sweet or not ripe enough? You can add more syrup or sugar, otherwise your salad may lack taste.
If your salad lacks acidity, add lime juice or citrus fruit. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the latter, but if it suits your tastes, grapefruit, blood oranges or clementines are good candidates for a fruit salad.
Other ingredients I like to add to this kind of salad are melons. Watermelon/pastèque, melon/cantaloupe, honeydew melon... The only problem is to find ones that are ripe enough to have enough flavor, otherwise I find them too often bland and this tends to detract from the recipe.
