With the return of fine weather and the heat beginning to make itself felt, it's time to enjoy light, refreshing meals. Greek salad is an ideal option for a quick lunch, a meal on the terrace or a side dish for a barbecue. This salad is not only delicious, but also easy and economical to prepare.
The ingredients
To make Greek salad, you'll need just a few simple ingredients. The basic ingredients are tomatoes, cucumber, bell bell pepper, red onion, olives and feta cheese. You can also add additional ingredients to suit your preferences, such as capers, roasted peppers, lettuce leaves, green onions or radishes.
Tomatoes are the main ingredient in this salad. It's best to use ripe tomatoes for their sweet, juicy flavor. Cherry tomatoes are also an interesting option, as they are easier to cut and have less juice than normal tomatoes.
Cucumber is also an important ingredient. It can be peeled or unpeeled, and cut into large chunks. The bell pepper should be cut into pieces the same size as the tomatoes and cucumber. The red onion should be cut into thin rings. Olives should be cut in half, and feta cheese should ideally be crumbled or, failing that, cut into small pieces.
Dressing for Greek salad
The dressing is also an important part of this salad. You can make your own by mixing olive oil, lemon juice, maple syrup, dijon mustard, oregano and salt and pepper. If you don't have the time to make your own, you can use a commercial vinaigrette. Just make sure you choose a light, low-fat dressing. Or you can also use my vinaigrette passe partout.
To assemble the salad, combine all the ingredients in a large bowl and add the dressing. Mix well and serve immediately. This salad can be stored in the refrigerator for several days, but is best eaten fresh.
This Greek salad is delicious, healthy and nutritious. The tomatoes are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, the cucumber is hydrating and the olives are rich in healthy fats. Feta cheese is also a good source of calcium and protein.
Although it could be a meal on its own, I often eat this salad as an accompaniment to another dish, such as a veggie burger or a hearty grilled cheese.
In short, Greek salad is an ideal option for light, refreshing meals. It's easy to prepare, economical and delicious. You can personalize it according to your preferences by adding extra ingredients. Try this salad at your next barbecue or terrace meal and enjoy!
